Situations When Conservatorship or Guardianship Could Be Appropriate

Guardianships and conservatorships are necessary in a variety of circumstances, including instances when the loved one is:

A minor who is in need of care and maintenance by a relative or friend
An elderly person suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, and who is unable to care for himself or herself
An individual suffering from a physical or mental incapacity, and unable to care for himself or herself, or to communicate his or her needs for proper health care, living needs or financial needs
